Keep in mind that most glass cleaners are alcohol based. They also wouldn't alter a cloth's chemical structure to make it harder (Mohs scale), so a cloth that won't scratch glass with water also won't scratch it with with alcohol. I could see it eating a coating, but glass as we know it is nonreactive to common alcohols. Where you have to be careful with those is the protective and anti-glare coatings some manufacturers use. More than likely that originated with someone using it with a dirty cloth or something. Easiest way to find stubborn ADF defects is to scan a page, then take the printed copy with the defect and line it up on the ADF glass and it will point directly to the problem.Ĭan't see alcohol or acetone contributing to scratching. And yes, if this is a single black line then dirt is the most likely cause and even clear adhesive from post it notes will cause light reflection that results in lines. You should just need water or alcohol and a lint-free cloth. My advice - clean autofeeders glass - I have marked it on below photo.This is my advice, too. It's because when document is passed through scanner's glass this particular "dot" is read by scanner as line. If the problem only appears when using document feeder, then most probably documents feeder's glass is dirty.Įven small dust can appear as vertical line on scanned document.
